here's a nice Lima set of two covered FS freight wagons with a very interresting history. Around 1997/98 Lima brought a nice range of standard UIC freight wagons (Gs etc.) in many different liveries and railway companies in their Nova Range. One of them was a set of two somewhat unusual models. Catalogue number 303216 was assigned to two wagons, that looked quite normal, but they were not. Each of them had a folded bellow diaphragm and a front door. German railway guys will propably see some similarities to the so called "LEIG-Einheiten" two close coupled vans with bellow in between them, used for express parcel service.
In Italy, the things were different. These vans had the UIC dessignation Hcqs-vwy. OK, lets go somewhat deeper into this:
H = Non standard covered van (capacity of +20 tons) c = Front doors (not neccessarily loading doors) q = Electric heating line equipped s = Permitted max. speed 100km/h - v = Length of more than 9ms w = Steam heating line y = folded bellows (vwy FS only)
Additionally these vans had a passenger type lettering and were actually permitted for speeds up to 120km/h. They were used due to their equipment for express parcels in passenger trains and occasionally as luggage vans (bagagliaio).
Their distinctive look made them very popular amongst modellers and they are quite hard to find now.
The models shown are right out of the box with no details added (see the missing stairs underneath the side door).
